1. Make sure you have a resume. Having a resume is crucial to your job search regardless of what type of job it is.

2. Use the newspaper not only for classifieds. You definitely should check the classifieds in the newspaper especially Sundays but if you are unfamiliar with the area, you should also look at the newspaper to get ideas of where to apply. Look at the ads, the business section and any part of the paper that will give you information about local business that are in your area.

3. Look at all online job sites. Make sure to scour any online job sites that cover the area that you live in. Online searches can be vital to you finding a job.

4. Check out the Chamber of Commerce website. Go to http://www.bakersfieldchamber.org/ and click on the link for Employers of Kern County to get a helpful list of companies that are local that may be hiring. You will also find this link on our website.

5. Take your resume to companies whether you know they are hiring or not. I have found a job by driving around and dropping off my resume at companies. It was a job that had not even been advertised or anything and it gives you a leg up on getting the job.

6. Word of mouth is helpful. Tell everyone you know that you are looking for a job. It will help in your search and they may know someone who is looking for an employee.
